Brittany Cass, founder of Bold Like Britt, brought her powerful and deeply personal message to the Naval Air Technical Training Center (NATTC), speaking to 500 Sailors in training.
As a military spouse and survivor of a devastating head-on collision caused by a drunk driver, Brittany shared the life-altering impact that one person’s reckless choice had on her, her husband, and their family. Jared, a U.S. Marine Corps Captain and KC-130 pilot, spoke alongside her, sharing his perspective as both a husband and a servicemember who has walked through the aftermath of such a tragedy. Together, their message was of resilience, responsibility, and the urgent need for cultural change around alcohol use.
Their presentation struck a chord in a community already facing significant challenges with alcohol misuse and mental health struggles. With NATTC’s student population of approximately 3,000 new Sailors, the Casses’ willingness to be open and vulnerable created a space for real reflection—reminding students that their choices ripple far beyond themselves.
Brittany and Jared’s firsthand account brought a raw, human perspective that no policy or briefing can replicate. The safety stand down served as a reminder that prevention starts with awareness, empathy, and the courage to intervene before tragedy strikes.
