I don’t know if I’ll ever have the right words to express what being at MADD’s 45th Anniversary celebration meant to me.
Standing on Capitol Hill- the energy, the atmosphere, the chance to use my voice- it was sacred. Hundreds of us (victims, survivors and families) came together to share our painful stories and remind Congress why implementing the HALT Drunk Driving Law is urgent and can save 10,000 lives once implemented.
We had the privilege of representing both Hawai’i and North Carolina and sharing our story with both members of the House of Representatives and Senators along with their staff.
It was POWERFUL!
It was healing to be among other victim survivors like me and instantly connect without even saying a thing. We’ve been through the unimaginable and it was so good for my soul to be among so many who instantly understood and empathized with the painful road we’ve endured.
In the same breath it was incredibly gut wrenching to meet so many heartbroken families who were there to honor and remember their beautiful loved ones. Their courage is deeply inspiring and something they shouldn’t have to endure.
It’s TRULY so humbling to get to LIVE! I thank God every. single. day. for this incredible life! It’s by dfar better than I could have ever imagined.
