Brittany Cass met with Utah Representative Norm Thurston to discuss the success of .05 BAC legislation and impaired driving prevention.

I’m incredibly humbled by the opportunity to meet and talk with Utah Representative Norm Thurston, who helped lead the charge to make Utah the first U.S. state to lower the BAC limit to .05. 

Nearly nine years later, his message remains the same: this is about behavioral change. Look at the date. Look at where the rest of the world stands. Utah has been at the forefront of this conversation, and its data and case studies have helped bring light to the positive impact this policy can have – if you drive – don’t drink! 

What a privilege it was to share my survival story with him, thank him for his efforts, and for his continued support – not just in Utah, but in helping other states move this conversation forward.
